Fixes in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25131

Fixed an issue that caused File Explorer to crash when browsing folders containing .MKV files. Searching for files from the home page should work fine. The icon for the new folder in the File Explorer command bar looks like the one in the context menu.

Using the search tool to open a folder such as %appdata% will show the correct icon instead of an empty square. The “Open file location” option will highlight the file after opening the directory in Explorer.

The Settings app will display the default apps page as the first result when you search for the term “default”. You no longer need to restart the computer after disabling and re-enabling the “Listen to this device” option to take effect. Narrator correctly navigates through users in the Settings > Accessibility > Color Filters page, reading the position of radio buttons.

Users reported that the rounded corners of the interface were pixelated in some scaled environments, this bug has been fixed. Windows Build 25131 fixes an issue that affected game performance when an application was used to monitor FPS (frame rate per second).

Update issues

Microsoft fixed an issue that prevented PCs with AMD processors from updating and running into a bug check. The company says this issue can also be related to bugchecks on PCs that have SVM (Secure Virtual Machine) enabled in the Bios. Users who have secondary accounts on their PC should now be able to upgrade to the latest versions.

Microsoft Store app improvements

The Microsoft Store app, which was revamped in Windows 11, has been updated to version 22205.1401.3.0. The Redmond-based company says the new Store app is also faster than before. From what I can tell, the animations have been improved, although it’s just a placebo effect.

The Store app now supports ARM64 devices natively. The Store app will now skip automatic updates for currently open apps, to prevent loss of important data. You will need to manually update them later.

Users may see a pop-up for an app in the Microsoft Store on the web, as part of the app discovery experience. This pop-up will also show some free Android apps that you can install on your Windows 11 computer. Clicking the Rent or Buy button on a TV show or movie listing will show a few options to watch the content i.e. standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD).

Known issues in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25131

Bugs related to Easy Cheat and Live Captions have still not been fixed. The latest version has 2 new known issues. The Start menu shutdown option may not work as expected and may restart the computer.

Microsoft is recommend Surface Pro X users should pause updates as it investigates an issue in the current build that causes devices to experience a black screen after waking from hibernation. If you encounter the problem, press and hold the power key to force shut down the tablet.

The release notes don’t mention it, but Windows 11 Insider Preview build 25131 enables the desktop search bar. You can remove it in 2 clicks. Right-click on the desktop and select the “Show Search” option.
